Question #1: Is GOAL Academy High School accredited?

Answer:

GOAL Academy is an accredited multi-district online charter high school with the Colorado Department of Education and authorized through Falcon School District 49.

GOAL Academy is also accredited through AdvancED, the largest community of education professionals in the world. The school is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews of Pre-K through12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential.

Question #2: Is GOAL Academy High School tuition free?

Answer:

GOAL Academy is a free Colorado public school which receives funding from a variety of sources. However, most revenues to Colorado’s 178 school districts are provided through the Public School Finance Act of 1994 (as amended). This per-pupil funding is paid for by Colorado taxpayers and supports students in all Colorado public schools.

Question #3: Does GOAL Academy High School provide computers for students?

Answer:

GOAL Academy provides a laptop computer for students to use while enrolled in school. This computer does not cost the student or family anything to use, and is returned at the end of each school year or when the student graduates.

For students who also need Internet, GOAL Academy provides a T-Mobile hot-spot.

Question #4: Can I play sports with my local high school?

Answer:

Colorado law allows charter students access to extracurricular activities at their local district school.

The law does not explicitly state that charter school students and employees are eligible to participate in all interscholastic leagues, competitions, awards, scholarships, and recognition programs available to non-charter public school students and employees.

GOAL Academy is not recognized by the NCAA at this time.

Question #5: Can I take college classes?

Answer:

GOAL Academy encourages students to take advantage of concurrent enrollment opportunities. Students are advised by their counselors on an individual education plan that will chart their courses and to determine when college courses can be started.

Tuition and books are paid for by GOAL Academy.

Question #6: Is tutoring available?

Answer:

Each student at GOAL Academy is placed in a classroom called a pod.

Each pod is assigned a teacher and at least one paraprofessional, both whom are available to the student for tutoring and guidance throughout each school year.

Question #7: Is it a regular diploma?

Answer:

Yes! GOAL Academy graduates earn a Colorado Department of Education certified diploma, issued by Falcon School District 49 and GOAL Academy High School.

Question #8: Do I have to go into the site?

Answer:

GOAL Academy High School curriculum is delivered through online assignments.

It is not required for a student to physically visit the site, except state assessments. There are activities and events at the site scheduled for social interaction and students are encouraged to attend, but not required.

Question #9: Is there a deposit on technology?

Answer:

No. Students do not have to pay to use our technology.

Each student is assigned a laptop computer and is asked to keep it in working order.

Question #10: What standardized testing does GOAL Academy High School do?

Answer:

All GOAL Academy High School Students participate in our internal assessments the STAR360, three times a year. These assessments take place at enrollment, mid-year and end of year.

We also participate in the state of Colorado's standardized assessments. These assessments vary for the different grade levels and programs offered at GOAL Academy.

Question #11: Do I get credit for the classes I took from my previous high school?

Answer:

GOAL Academy Counseling Department will review your transcripts and any state approved coursework from your previous school will be given credit towards graduation requirements.

Question #12: Is there an age limit?

Answer:

GOAL Academy serves students grade 9 though 12th grade. You must be under 21 years of age on or before October 1 of each calendar year to qualify.

Question #13: How many hours each day do I have to work?

Answer:

GOAL Academy focuses on completions of daily activity in course work. We encourage students to complete 12 lessons or activities a week.

Question #14: When is the school open?

Answer:

The benefits of online school are that school is open when it is convenient for you. You will work with your teachers to design a schedule that works for you.

Question #15: Do you offer summer school?

Answer:

GOAL Academy does not offer summer school.
